Deeper Learning
Hey there. Welcome back to Product Hunt’s weekly AI newsletter. Today, we’re talking about the return of Clippy (thanks OpenAI!), some AI headlines you need to know, and of course tools you might have missed.
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT
What Clippy should have been
OpenAI just took collaboration with ChatGPT to the next level with ChatGPT Canvas—a new way to work side by side with AI, refining text and code in real time. Think of it like this: instead of the usual back-and-forth, you now have a canvas where you and ChatGPT can actively shape ideas together. It’s not just conversation anymore—it’s co-creation.
How does it work? Canvas opens in a separate window, sitting right next to the ChatGPT chat box. From there, you can manually tweak sections of text or code, highlight areas for more precise edits, or ask for targeted feedback. The result? A much more interactive and hands-on way to collaborate with AI that feels smoother and less tedious than constantly prompting and adjusting.
Whether you’re refining a piece of writing or debugging code, Canvas gives you a set of shortcuts to speed things up. From checking grammar and clarity to adjusting the reading level or even adding logs and comments to your code, Canvas is all about giving you more control over the output. Plus, there’s a handy back button if you want to revert to a previous version of your work—because we all have those “oops” moments.
What’s the big deal? This is the first major update to ChatGPT’s interface since it launched, and it’s all about making AI more useful and accessible. OpenAI wants Canvas to feel less like an assistant you have to direct and more like a teammate that just gets what you need. It’s currently in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Teams users, with wider access coming soon.
Honestly, this is what Clippy should have been—just 28 years late to the party.
